Arthur: Arthur's Lost Library Book Review

Arthur: Arthur's Lost Library Book Overview

Marc Brown's fine fellow of an 8-year-old aardvark, Arthur, loses a library book (the latest story from the Scare-Your-Pants-Off series), and he searches and searches everywhere for it. Mystified by its disappearance, Arthur does what any child his age might do in this situation: wonder if the scary book walked off somehow by itself. This entertaining story of responsibility is followed by an excellent episode about sibling dynamics, "D.W.'s Imaginary Friend," in which Arthur's sister gains an invisible pal, much to his embarrassment. --Tom Keogh

Great Price BACALL,LAUREN for $39.58

Broadway's Lost Treasures Collection (Broadway's Lost Treasures 1-3 & The Best of the Tony Awards - The Plays) Review

Broadway's Lost Treasures Collection (Broadway's Lost Treasures 1-3 & The Best of the Tony Awards - The Plays) Overview

A comprehensive collection of great performances captured on film as part of the annual Tony Award® broadcasts. Broadway royalty and Tony® winners, including Lauren Bacall, Bebe Neuwirth, Robert Goulet, and Harvey Fierstein, serve as hosts and share their own Broadway and Tony® memories.

Produced as PBS specials, Broadway’s Lost Treasures I, II, & III feature legendary stars—including Patti LuPone, Nell Carter, Jerry Orbach, Gwen Verdon, Ethel Merman, Kristin Chenoweth, Angela Lansbury, Joel Grey, and many more—performing musical numbers from legendary shows—including Anything Goes, Man of La Mancha, Guys and Dolls, Ain’t Misbehavin’, Chicago, Fosse, Miss Saigon, Crazy for You, and many many more.

The Best of the Tony® Awards–The Plays features acting greats, such as James Earl Jones, Maggie Smith, Annette Benning, Kevin Kline, and Morgan Freeman, performing key scenes from 19 celebrated plays, including The Great White Hope, The Heidi Chronicles, Fences, Hamlet, and Long Day’s Journey Into Night.

For theatre lovers, it doesn’t get any better than this!

Broadway's Lost Treasures Collection (Broadway's Lost Treasures 1-3 & The Best of the Tony Awards - The Plays) Specifications

The Broadway's Lost Treasures Collection consists of the three volumes previously released on DVD plus a never-before-available fourth disc, The Best of the Tony Awards: The Plays. The first three discs deliver what the title promises: historic performances of great moments in American musical theater televised on the Tony Awards starting in the 1960s and into the new millennium. Unlike some other arts, theater has rarely been well-documented, so it's a treat to see these numbers performed by the original artists rather than experience them through audio recordings or tepid movie adaptations. Sure, sound and picture quality are only adequate, some of the numbers are minimally staged and some appear to be lip-synched, and some of the performances that do have excellent film counterparts seem rather lackluster here. But those are minor drawbacks compared to the chance to see Gwen Verdon performing "All That Jazz" and "Nowadays" from Chicago and "Whatever Lola Wants" from Damn Yankees; John Raitt singing The Pajama Game's "Hey There"; Alfred Drake singing Kiss Me Kate's "Where Is the Life That Late I Led"); a 33-year-old Jerry Orbach performing Promises, Promises' "She Likes Basketball"; and 12-year-old Andrea McArdle breaking hearts in Annie's "Tomorrow."

The second and third volumes feature newer, fully staged performances that are almost indistinguishable from an actual show, including scenes from splashy, high-energy revivals such as Anything Goes (Patti LuPone and company performing the title tune) and Guys and Dolls (the fabulous "Sit Down You're Rockin' the Boat"), and new shows such as Grand Hotel (Michael Jeter and Brent Barrett in a gloriously exuberant "Take a Glass Together"), Les Miserables ("One Day More"), La Cage aux Folles (George Hearn solo and with a chorus line in drag in "I Am What I Am"), Ragtime (the opening number), and You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown (Kristin Chenoweth's "My New Philosophy"). The new generation of splashy dance-oriented musicals are also represented by the likes of the 42nd Street revival (the title tune and "We're in the Money"), Fosse ("Sing, Sing, Sing"), and Crazy for You ("I Can't Be Bothered Now").

The Best of the Tony Awards: The Plays features 19 of the dramatic and comedy excerpts showcased on the Tony Awards telecasts between 1969 and 2001. From 1969 are James Earl Jones and Jane Alexander in The Great White Hope and Art Carney in Lovers, and other performances include Maggie Smith and Margaret Tyzack in Lettice and Lovage (1990), John Lithgow and B.D. Wong in M. Butterfly (1988), Joan Allen and Peter Friedman in The Heidi Chronicles (1988), and Joe Mantegna and Ron Silver in Speed-the-Plow (1988). The performances aren't specifically organized by date or performer, but the collection concludes with four excerpts from August Wilson works followed by three Shakespearean works. The excerpts are brief, lasting 2-3 minutes each, and even though each segment is introduced by a narrator, this format clearly works better for musicals than it does for plays. Regardless, it remains a rare chance to see stage performances that for the most part are not available on home video. Collectors who already own the three musical volumes, however, will have to weigh how badly they want The Plays when they consider mostly duplicating their purchase with the Broadway's Lost Treasures Collection. --David Horiuchi

The Honeymooners - Classic 39 Episodes Review

The Honeymooners - Classic 39 Episodes Overview

HONEYMOONERS:CLASSIC 39 EPISODES - DVD Movie

The Honeymooners - Classic 39 Episodes Specifications

Get the bag. As The Honeymooners continues to get bumped from late-night TV schedules across the nation--by laughably unfunny shows such as Friends and Murphy Brown no less--legions of Honeymoonies will need to get their fix in other ways. This set--the Honeymoonie's Holy Grail--contains all 39 episodes from the legendary 1955-1956 season. There's no commentary from some "expert" who compares Ralph to gods from Greek mythology or memories from some assistant producer--it's just the meat, and that's enough to make any fan salivate. This was the only season that The Honeymooners had a life of its own apart from the Jackie Gleason Show, and as much as we tried to welcome the "Lost Episodes" into our family, they very rarely matched the high quality of the classic 39. Rather than sequence them in order, the producers have decided to group them by eight different themes including Ralph's jealous nature, his life at the Gotham Bus Company, his friendship with Norton, domestic troubles, and financial woes. Sometimes this approach is a bit forced, but it does illustrate why The Honeymooners is the ultimate situation comedy: You can show them out of order. No matter what happens to the Bensonhurst foursome, Ralph will still work for the bus company, Norton in the sewer. They'll be struggling to get by, passing the time bowling, shooting pool, arguing with the wives, and dreaming of a better day. And it's in the mundanity of everyday life that The Honeymooners finds boundless humor. Even when the events were anything but mundane--bank robbers, counterfeiters, TV commercials, game shows, golf dates with The Boss--the real story and the best jokes were about the reality of their lives and the realization that, because of marriage and friendship, they didn't really have it so bad after all. The chemistry between Jackie Gleason and Art Carney still amazes after all these years. Audrey Meadows's Alice is the perfect foil for Ralph, stern but sympathetic. And Joyce Randolph's Trixie? Well, let's just call her "earnest." Still, for all of Norton's frenetic energy and Alice's wisdom, the show belongs to Ralph Kramden. Somehow, Gleason took a chauvinistic, paranoid, insensitive, scheming, bitter, loudmouth, underachieving bus driver and made him a hero to millions. --Marc Greilsamer

Lost - The Complete Third Season Specifications

When it aired in 2006-07, Lost's third season was split into two, with a hefty break in between. This did nothing to help the already weirdly disparate direction the show was taking (Kate and Sawyer in zoo cages! Locke eating goop in a mud hut!), but when it finally righted its course halfway through--in particular that whopper of a finale--the drama series had left its irked fan base thrilled once again. This doesn't mean, however, that you should skip through the first half of the season to get there, because quite a few questions find answers: what the Others are up to, the impact of turning that fail-safe key, the identity of the eye-patched man from the hatch's video monitor. One of the series' biggest curiosities from the past--how Locke ended up in that wheelchair in the first place--also gets its satisfying due. (The episode, "The Man from Tallahassee," likely was a big contributor to Terry O'Quinn's surprising--but long-deserved--Emmy win that year.)

Unfortunately, you do have to sit through a lot of aforementioned nuisances to get there. Season 3 kicks off with Jack (Matthew Fox), Kate (Evangeline Lilly), and Sawyer (Josh Holloway) held captive by the Others; Sayid (Naveen Andrews), Sun (Yunjin Kim), and Jin (Daniel Dae Kim) on a mission to rescue them; and Locke, Mr. Eko (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), and Desmond (Henry Ian Cusick) in the aftermath of the electromagnetic pulse that blew up the hatch. Spinning the storylines away from base camp alone wouldn't have felt so disjointed were it not for the new characters simultaneously being introduced. First there's Juliet, a mysterious member of the Others whose loyalty constantly comes into question as the season goes on. Played delicately by Elizabeth Mitchell (Gia, ER, Frequency), Juliet is in one turn a cold-blooded killer, by another turn a sympathetic friend; possibly both at once, possibly neither at all. (She's also a terrific, albeit unwitting, threat to the Kate-Sawyer-Jack love triangle, which plays out more definitively this season.) On the other hand, there's the now-infamous Nikki and Paulo (Kiele Sanchez and Rodrigo Santoro), a tagalong couple who were cleverly woven into the previous seasons' key moments but came to bear the brunt of fans' ire toward the show (Sawyer humorously echoed the sentiments by remarking, "Who the hell are you?"). By the end of the season, at least two major characters die, another is told he/she will die within months, major new threats are unveiled, and--as mentioned before--the two-part season finale restores your faith in the series.

The extras are as well-stocked as a Dharma Initiative food pantry on this seven-disc set. Commentaries by producer Damon Lindelof, show writers, and numerous cast members reveal a whole lot of juicy trivia; plus, the DVDs even provide a subtitle track for the commentary (rarely seen other than on foreign-language director's commentaries) so you won't miss a thing. "Lost Book Club" goes through the parallels between what characters are reading and the show's storylines (The Wizard of Oz and Stephen King are heavily referenced). "Lost: On Location" gives a lot of insight to some of the biggest episodes, and "Lost in a Day" gives a 24-hour glimpse at the drama's arduous production. If you're a Lost fan who gave up during this season, the bonus features alone might lure you back for the next round. --Ellen A. Kim

NOVA - Hitler's Lost Sub Review

NOVA - Hitler's Lost Sub Overview

The true story behind the cataclysmic World War II naval battle that took place just off American shores.

1941. America had just entered World War II, but terrifying unseen weapons were stalking US targets, sinking over 400 ships just miles from American shores in the worst naval defeat in United States history. The stealthy predators were German U-boats, Hitler’s deadly warships of the deep. It was cataclysmic—with bodies and wreckage washed ashore on the eastern seaboard. But the Allies ultimately triumphed, sinking over 700 enemy submarines.

Fifty years later, the personal drama behind this wartime state of siege resurfaced when a team of divers discovered an unidentified German U-boat deep in the waters off the New Jersey coast. What boat was it? And what secret mission brought it there? The divers embarked on a dangerous, six-year quest to uncover the secret of the mysterious wreck. Three divers lost their lives in the search, but the clues uncovered have shed remarkable new light on the struggles and triumphs from this undersea war.

There’s more in this spectacular two-hour video journey. Trace the history of submarines and undersea warfare from the American Revolution through World War II, and tour the sophisticated—and cramped—interior of a captured U-boat. Dive in dangerous waters with deep sea detectives as they attempt to retrieve clues that will reveal the decaying U-boat’s identity. See how the breaking of secret Nazi codes by the Allies altered the outcome of the war—and helped unravel the mystery behind this German U-boat. And finally, travel to Germany with the divers as they rewrite a part of World War II history, bring closure to families of the lost crew and discover how one man’s life was spared.

Nova: Secrets of Lost Empires Inca [VHS] Overview

Uncover the secrets of ancient civilizations as NOVA journeys to an archaeological site where teams of experts use traditional techniques to test their hypotheses. Explore the magnificent mountainside citadels, and marvel as villagers create a 150-foot suspension bridge using nothing but grass.

Nova: Secrets of Lost Empires Inca [VHS] Specifications

How'd they do it? The Inca people built huge structures in the Andes using only Stone Age technology, structures which remain standing today, mortarless. Nova, in Secrets of Lost Empires: Inca, part of the Secrets of Lost Empire series, sent a team of experts to Peru to test hypotheses by building smaller structures using only Incan engineering, as well as by watching modern natives build enormous suspension bridges out of nothing but grass. It's hard work, but perseverance is the key. Completely engrossing, Secrets of Lost Empires: Inca shows us that high-tech isn't the answer to everything as ageless, monumental structures are shown to be built with nothing but muscles, rope, and ingenuity. --Rob Lightner

Secrets of Lost Empires II Boxed Set [VHS] Specifications

Technophiles of the 21st century can be smug about the advances made in recent years. But modern man doesn't have a monopoly on knowledge; in fact many of the advances made in earlier centuries have been lost to us. How did the Egyptians build their obelisks? How were the Chinese able to build the rainbow bridges? What are the mysteries of the Roman baths? Nova explores these and other ancient engineering feats in its brilliant series Secrets of the Lost Empires II. Using the same techniques as in the first series of Secrets of the Lost Empires, Nova brings together teams of scientists, engineers, and historians to re-create ancient marvels.

The five episodes in this boxed set take you around the world and through time. Medieval Siege explores warfare of yore, as a team attempts to build a trebuchet, a giant weapon used to impregnate fortresses. Easter Island travels to a remote island in the South Pacific where giant human forms, sculptures called moai, dot the landscape. Discover how approximately 900 moai were carved over a period of 500 years by ancient people who had only stone tools hewn from volcanic rock. Pharaoh's Obelisk looks back 3,500 years to the time of Hetshepsut, as a team tries to build the giant stone obelisks that helped the pharaoh control her people. Roman Bath attempts to re-create those infamous places of community and hygiene, despite the lack of blueprints and information. Finally, in China Bridge, experts endeavor to raise a wood-and-bamboo bridge over a river near Suzhou, China. A mixture of science, history, and cultural studies, this series is a delightful exploration into the mysteries of centuries long past. --Jenny Brown

People's Century: Lost Peace [VHS] Review

People's Century: Lost Peace [VHS] Overview

Educational public performance rights are now available! The First World War bathed the new century in blood: Nine million lost their lives in a merciless war of attrition. A whole generation was traumatized by the horror of the trenches—and vowed that war would be a thing of the past.

Lost Peace revisits the popular hopes and experience in the years following World War I—and the looming threat of a new nationalism: despite Woodrow Wilson's promise of a "people's peace," old prejudices refused to die and nationalist passions again began to rise. Defeated nations were left out in the cold, resentful and unreconciled. Fascism and militarism spread while pacifist movements fought an increasingly unsuccessful rearguard action to preserve the dream of peace. By the late 1930s, people had to choose between avoiding war at all costs, or talking up arms to resist aggression. Fifty-five million lives were about to be lost in a second world war.

The people remember: Woodrow Wilson and the League of Nations, Yankee isolationism, German reparations, American volunteers fight the Spanish Civil War, invasions by Mussolini and Hitler.

People's Century: Lost Peace [VHS] Specifications

World War I bathed the new century in blood. Nine million lives were lost during four years of the worst slaughter the world had ever seen. A generation was traumatized by the horror of the trenches, and the world's leaders vowed that peace was here to stay.

Spanning the years 1919 to 1936, this compelling episode of the Emmy Award-winning People's Century series chronicles how the elation following the cease fire ("the prettiest piece of paper I ever saw," states one American soldier) inexorably dissolved as the world rearmed itself for a war that would claim the lives of 55 million.

The narrative of the failure of the League of Nations to stop the rise of fascism is interwoven with the memories of a diverse group of eyewitnesses from around the world. Recalling the United States' retreat into isolationism, one American soldier remembers returning to his farm after the war. "We wasn't interested in any foreign countries," he states. "We was interested in our own selves and home."

We experience the springtime of hope that greeted the birth of such new nations as Yugoslavia and Czechoslovakia. One Czech woman recalls her mother weeping, "We have freedom."

But it was short-lived. In 1935 Italy defied the League of Nations and invaded Ethiopia. Germany annexed Austria. Japan conquered Manchuria. The storm clouds of war were on the horizon, and the world once again raced to arm itself. "I would never have thought that we would be stupid enough to go to war again," remarks a former French soldier. "I never thought I would be called again 20 years later." --Donald Liebenson

Documentary

Dallas: The Complete Third Season Specifications

Dallas: The Complete Third Season, originally broadcast in the fall of 1979 through early 1980, surely represents one of the most raucous and tantalizing years in the life of any television series in history. Murder, banking fraud, kidnapping, adultery, alcoholism, cancer, vengeance, a miscarriage, extortion, bribery, and astounding levels of betrayal both in business and private lives are just part of the catalogue of sins that make season 3 particularly juicy. Actually, what makes the 25 episodes in this box set so much fun to watch is a viewer's gradual awareness that every crime committed, every ethical breach or personal tragedy is part of an overall design, reverberating in dozens of directions and affecting multiple relationships and numerous schemes. As enjoyable as each program is on its own terms, it's quite clear that by the 25th episode, "A House Divided," in which a major character receives a surprise-ending comeuppance, that all chickens were intended to come home to roost in the last show's very clever script.

A remarkable number of story threads found their way into season 3. Starting with a two-parter concerning the kidnapping of a newborn baby belonging to J.R. (Larry Hagman) and Sue Ellen Ewing (Linda Gray), problems just keep on sprouting like weeds. First, there's Sue Ellen's emotional deep-freeze and refusal to nurture her child as a healthy mom should, which in turn prompts the childless Pamela Ewing (Victoria Principal) to free her maternal instincts toward J.R.'s son, much to the chagrin of J.R.'s brother, Bobby (Patrick Duffy). Meanwhile, teenager Lucy (Charlene Tilton), abandoned daughter of missing Ewing son Gary (David Ackroyd), threatens to teach J.R.'s son, one day, to turn against the Ewing clan, inspiring J.R. to escalate plans to get rid of Lucy any way possible. (Gary, by the way, kicks into gear a famous Dallas spin-off by moving to Knots Landing, California.) Matriarch Miss Ellie (Barbara Bel Geddes) faces a mastectomy, making her worry that husband Jock (Jim Davis) will stop loving her, though he faces problems of his own when a skeleton found buried on Ewing property turns up near Jock's missing handgun. (Whoops.) Finally, J.R.'s almost Shakespearean manipulation of the sale of Asian oil fields to old family friends, just before those fields are nationalized, is brilliantly wicked stuff. His actions have enormous, grievous ramifications--not least of all for J.R. --Tom Keogh

This was ordered as a gift for my husband. Since this is my first experience with Amazon, I was worried about receiving the product of "outside" of society. The service was excellent and the product in excellent condition. I am very impressed with the experience.

Home Improvement: The Complete Eighth Season Review

How very nice, all good reasons to watch Tim Allen "Home Improvement" series, of which this collection was the last season to be remembered. Under the good reasons are more fun, writing character-oriented, a focus on a healthy family, affectionate and reasonably well adjusted, the estimate occasionally hilarious tumble physical ... and I've always liked the rather clever transitions. They were small, throwaway bits, but still. He said the world of entertainmentthat such care and creativity, with more than a relatively small detail.
That said, was seeing a little 'shock, has become as much the boy was the first season to season eight, but obviously he was eight years old. The father of eleven bright, and adoring pre-schoolers is a newcomer and an average of college students have until the end of everything. And I think we should hide all the possible and impossible means half of the nearby Wilson workedTake in all the circumstances. But do not destroy the ability Toolman, appliances and gadgets of all kinds, which, like Wily Coyote genius of creative destruction, was a fountain that never went dry Tim, as in the bonus round "The Home Improvement Users' Guide for be demonstrated. A sequence of this special meeting characterized by a series of explosions barbecue grill, dishwasher and souped revolving Christmas trees shedding sparks and clouds of smoke ... It 'been so much fun we playeda couple of times we laugh every time the tears. All in all, a series that was very good, especially compared to the current crop of situation comedies on the broadcast networks.

Home Improvement: The Complete Eighth Season Overview

UPC:786936740738
DESCRIPTION: Home Improvement is a sitcom about Tim Taylor (Tim Allen), the accident prone host of a television program about tools - Tool Time. Tim raises three mischievous boys (Brad, Randy, and Mark) with his wife, Jill. Wilson is the Taylor s partially-seen neighbor who gives insightful advice to help the family. Al Borland is Tim's responsible, caring and flannel-wearing co-host on Tool Time. END

Home Improvement: The Complete Eighth Season Specifications

In its eighth and final season, classic sitcom Home Improvement holds up pretty well. Sure, plenty of recurring bits have gone stale--one imagines that star Tim Allen is looking forward to the day when he'll never have to grunt again, and hiding the face of neighbor Wilson (Earl Hindman) seems more like an obligatory chore than an entertaining game--but when the show focuses on the sitcom bedrock of marriage and family, it's not only still funny but sometimes even moving. The centerpiece of the whole season is a two-part episode that starts with an abundance of jokes about Tim's discomfort with female biology--then takes a jolting turn with the revelation that Jill (Patricia Richardson) has to get a hysterectomy. What follows is both comic and refreshingly honest as it captures Jill's anger and frustration, as well as a quietly touching portrait of how spouses support each other in times of trouble. Polly Holiday (Flo on Alice) boosts this episode with a strong appearance as Jill's mother.

The rest of the season goes up and down, suffering from some pointless celebrity appearances (Morgan Fairchild, Jay Leno, Oprah Winfrey, magicians Penn & Teller) and stunt-casting (Playboy playmate Jenny McCarthy as a mechanic Tim flirts with), and the departure of Jonathan Taylor Thomas (whose teen heartthrob career never quite launched) throws off the long-established family dynamic. But even otherwise rote episodes have satisfyingly funny moments (in a Halloween episode, there's a nice bit of slapstick when Tim, dressed as a flying monkey from The Wizard of Oz, can't get his wings through a doorway). The comfortable interplay among the seasoned cast ensures that longtime fans will find much to enjoy. The extras include some brief interviews, a blooper reel, and a retrospective special. --Bret Fetzer

Not my favorite season - ABC Snoopy - New Jersey
I love this show, but that's where the show was bad. I hated that Randy left, he was my favorite. Marty and his sons were angry. Land for Tots was the worst episode ever. The show was not just the same. Any other time of year is great, but the season was not. I have almost given a lower rating, but there were some good things this season, but not so much. I do not think I would buy it anyway, and someday I'll be able to see everything on Youtube, so everything to work properly.

Funny show... - Joshua Jurado - Weslaco, TX USA
This show has always been a way to make me laugh all the way until the next TV show season 8 I recommend this for anyone who enjoys comedy only involved with a family.

Dragon Ball GT - The Lost Episodes - Reaction (Vol. 1) Review

FUNimation has done an outstanding job on the dubs for Dragon Ball Z, but she seemed to hurry through the GT-Dubs. They do not stop and think: "How Cheesy is that the sound" or "Wait ... is not that Pan 15?" No, FUNimation just an old used set of entries in Z, and tried to do a show. This is not working well. Add the rap / rock song, and you have a strange sight. The biggest thing is wrong with the dub of absaence Schemell Sean (Goku adult), who takes away so much. There arealso too few appearances by Christopher Sabat (Vegeta, Piccolo).
But the Japanese version is perfect. The voices are great, the dialogue is well written and funny and the music is excellent. FUNimation and gives us perfectly on this DVD. Unlike the DVD-Z, where it is held that the tone sounds in mono and 50 years. (Even if Z and GT are both pretty old) the sound is great and is as good as the English dub.
Okay, to control the main road.
The Lost Episodes is onlyEpisodes 1-15, that FUNimation not before. Now they are all here, what defines all 64 episodes of GT. GT is in itself a good series, nt as good as Z, but keep the same spirit. Akira Toriyama, Japanese author of Z must be strong in the spin-off of short Z., buy this, then the volumes 2-5, and then buy the afflictions generations have to do.
And do it in Japanese.

More than meets the eye - Alex Davis - California
This movie was much better than I expected. I just stuck with my 8 years (which was a gift) a day when I was on the treadmill. I was surprised mixed, some interesting concepts about the nature of time, a number of dimensions, and heaven and hell with questions about teamwork, friendship, and the idea that good and evil can be the same person at a time to find it. My son loved and regularly watch.

The Proper Begining Finally!!!! - Wolf2K4Ever - Bronx, NY United States
Now is the time, these episodes just start to DBGT, I do not know why they released as episodes of "Lost," [My guess is that only DBZ movie left so that you try as much as milk, may for this ] series, because the DBGT first disc is a brief summary of the episode, what happened before Episode 1 disc. It 's very confused, I was really exicited that DBGT was released on DVD and I was disappointed that does not begin, as it should, causingMissed a few episodes. The first time I've seen DBGT way back in 1998, where the effects were bootleg and subtitled VHS. I was not really happy about the new episode of Dragon Ball, but once I started collecting DVDs, I got into it. I will be adding this disc to my collection.

The Twilight Zone - Season 1 (1985 - 1986) Review

This is the first season DVD set of the "new" Twilight Zone, aired during the 1985-86 season. The unique stories of the original series is the new standard with many stories of many famous science fiction writer wrote conducted. The video quality seems to have seen the series on television in 1980 (on a high definition TV, there is a clear and sharp sound). As another reviewer mentioned, the video archives of the TV series onlycomposed of old videotapes and no negative film and video transmission quality was limited. However, this DVD is packaged very well, which is a summary booklet of sequence and each of the six DVDs on a plastic support separate page, which provides excellent protection in any DVD player. Two episodes of what I consider to be the best in this series in this series - "A Message from Charity '(episode 6) and" Her Pilgrim Soul "(episode 12). For older viewers, it's Danny KayeFeatured in an episode before he died - "Paladin of the Lost Hour" (Episode 7). The DVD set is the audio commentary from the stars and production crew that the discussions of each episode, which has only the value of the cost of the DVD set details. Even if Rod Serling was not alive to see this remake of his original series, I'm sure he agreed.

American Experience - Lost in the Grand Canyon Review

American Experience - Lost in the Grand Canyon Overview

In the spring of 1869, a thirty-five-year-old, one-armed Civil War veteran and self-taught scientist led an expedition down the Colorado River into the last uncharted territory in the United States. Ninety-nine days later, John Wesley Powell emerged from the Grand Canyon after one of the most daring journeys in American history. Transformed by his experience, Powell would forever change America's attitude toward the West.

A year after Powell's death in 1902, President Theodore Roosevelt visited the Grand Canyon and declared it to be "a natural wonder absolutely unparalleled in the world . . . one of the great sights every American should see." The Grand Canyon would come to be embraced like no other natural place in America, a national shrine for those following in the footsteps of John Wesley Powell. This American Experience film is an account of the dramatic quest to explore one of the most unforgiving, and breathtakingly beautiful, places on earth.

DVD Contents - Retro_Saiyan - Australia
This DVD contains the following components:
"Meet The O'Briens" (Failed TV Pilot)
"The Joe E. Brown Show"
"Let's Join Joanie" (TV Pilot failed)
"Operation ESP"

The four programs are fun to watch, but I am sure the best choice for someone just learning about the 50 launch TV. The image quality ranges from average to poor, but this is expected with this rare content. "Let's Join Joanie" is featured with Joan Davis, before it was "I Married Joan," butRider forgettable and waste their talent. Overall, not a bad DVD, 50's TV but do not judge him.
Recommmend for those who want rare as the TV, or see some lesser-known 50-comedy.

You Bet Your Life - The Lost Episodes Review

I bought this DVD at the same time I bought a lot cheaper Groucho Marx: You Bet Your Life - 14 classic episodes.

I love this DVD. I love Groucho. I have all the MP3 files from "You Bet Your Life", radio broadcasts, and I want a complete set of the TV series was available.

But, the other DVD was simply a much better value. Now I want to be "The Lost Episodes", or at a discounted price, but the 18 episodes here are no better (or worse) that the 14 episodes ofabove reference to "bargain" DVD. I have to admit that packaging is much better on this set, and there are some extra OK, but not much to add value to these shows, you can do without the extras.

This is a great product, do not get me wrong. But in terms of bang for the dollar, falling behind the DVD-14 episode referenced above.

You Bet Your Life - The Lost Episodes Overview

The Lost Episodes is a deluxe 3 DVD Box that includes 18 episodes, 6 episodes per disc with each episode running 25 minutes, a 20 page booklet with an outstanding essay by Groucho expert Robert S. Bader, plus loads of rare You Bet Your Life memorabilia and photos. These shows are officially licensed from the Groucho Marx estate and NBC, and have been produced from the original film reels found at the UCLA film archive and the Library of Congress. These episodes have not been seen since their original run in the early 50's. They were never repackaged for syndication by NBC for various reasons. Includes out takes from the episodes on every disc and a 17 minute film made for DeSoto dealers called The Making of You Bet Your Life included as an extra. In addition to the episodes, the box set includes a treasure trove of original and rare Groucho gems, including his 1947 audition for the original You Bet Your Life radio program! Other rarities included as DVD extras: Groucho's 1947 audition for the original radio show; a promotional recording Groucho made as a Christmas gift to DeSoto dealers; Some original commercials

Groucho Marx is arguably the most famous, iconic comedian of all-time. It's funny to think that for all the great films and stage appearances he made throughout his career both in the Marx Brothers act and solo, Groucho seemed to prefer this modestly-produced TV series above all others. Groucho was the emcee and star of this filmed quiz show and though it was ostensibly a game show, the series' most important asset was the humor injected by Groucho into the interviews he did with the contestants You Bet Your Life ran on television from October 5, 1950 - June 29, 1961 (423 episodes), one of the longest running shows in the history of television. (There were also 105 episodes that aired exclusively on radio.) The program was renamed The Groucho Show during its last season and has been seen in syndication as The Best Of Groucho for the last 40 years.

You Bet Your Life - The Lost Episodes Specifications

With 18 shows that remained unseen since their original broadcasts in the 1950s, You Bet Your Life: The Lost Episodes offers another welcome example of the way DVDs are preserving our precious television heritage. Of course, this long-running game show (1950-61) was barely a game show at all. Instead, it was a perfect showcase for the wit and whimsy of Groucho Marx (1890-1977), who clearly relished the third major chapter (after stage and movies) of his illustrious career. With his mischievously elevated eyebrows and ever-present cigar, the great comedian was right at home with average and above-average civilians, recruited from the studio audience in offbeat pairs to answer quiz questions and win typically modest sums of cash. "Say the secret word and split a hundred dollars," said Groucho as each contest commenced, and a mangy stuffed duck named Julius (Groucho's real name) would drop from the rafters to reveal the secret word.

While there was a modicum of preparation before these shows were filmed, most of Groucho's one-liners and snappy comebacks are impressively off-the-cuff, hilariously demonstrating the mastery of humor that Groucho--still vital in his well-heeled sixties--had honed over decades of live performance. His frequently nervous contestants are equally amusing, sometimes giving as well as they got from their rapier-witted host. They are also occasionally exceptional: professional baseball umpires; super-athlete Bob Matthias; a decorated Korean War hero; a Mr. And Miss Universe; a celebrated mystery writer; TV comedian Ernie Kovacs; British "hipster" comic Lord Buckley; and even Gary Cooper's mother appear as contestants. With a revealing glimpse of '50s popular culture, these well-produced DVDs also include a wealth of You Bet Your Life artifacts: the "stag reels" showcase Groucho's deft handling of "mature humor" edited from the original broadcasts; a behind-the-scenes film reveals the show's inner workings and primary staff; and ads for Plymouth/DeSoto dealers (the show's sole sponsor) are quaintly charming by latter-day standards. Best of all, Groucho's original radio audition is included, along with a priceless 10-minute radio clip featuring Groucho and Bob Hope--a comedy gem that led to Groucho's long-term employment on television. For Marx Brothers and Groucho fans, this is a treasure trove of smile-inducing nostalgia. --Jeff Shannon

This package is truly a gem for fans and historians - of good quality, original shows and well produced, and, of course, Julius M. does its thing - often funny.
